Company PAL 2016 - 1: Citadel [JAN]

Postby mcfonz » Sun Jan 03, 2016 12:02 am

New Year, new start.

And what better way than to attack it as we mean to go on with some of that Citadel Goodness?!!

So prime those miniatures, get those paint lids flipped, or unscrewed, and those brushes ready to go.

GET PAINTING! THE BARE LEAD DEMANDS IT! :drunk:

I have a couple of options here I think

One is I have this box set in the pile

but if memory serves they need stripping before work starts

Or 2 some Necromunda Spryers one of which will need some rebuilding work.

I don't think there's a clear cut off point, but I'd probably say warhammer anything before 6th edition, 40K anything before 3rd edition would be more citadel than GW, but there's probably a large grey area.
I don't think we should be to critical, if it's old it counts :thumb:

as a rule of thumb (with notable exceptions) if it's metal it's ok, but since we want participation mostly I don't think anyone will mind if it's GW or Citadel

So I don't really have the nostalgia and background of old citadel stuff since I only started with minis in like the mid 90s with... I think 5th edition warhammer.

I do however how a couple of citadel minis I picked up in some job lot a few years back.

I think painting them all is probably wishful thinking given my progress in previous PALs so I'll probably end up painting Strider. Need to undercoat the bottom right guy though... don't like the look of that metal darkening, don't think it's rot though.

Strider is lovely fig though - look fwd to it. I'm gonna push on with a half dozen skellies, maybe some mummies if I make good progress.

Right, so thinking out loud, I think I have a handful of the Dogs of War mercenary Ogre unit - the name escapes me right now, unsurprising perhaps as it is 00:30 and am at work . . . .

I shall try to get at least one done. I did say try .. . . .

Aw nuts, this would have been a perfect time to paint another of my DOW ogre conversions too. I think the last one I did was for last January's Citadel PAL, sadly, the rest of my ogres are in a storage unit until the basement gets finished. In fact pretty much all my old citadel stuff is there. I'll have to see if I have anything up here on my staging shelf at the desk if I'm going to get anything in for January. :/

Aw crap, even my primer cans are in storage. :cuss:

Hopefully I'll figure something out.

Today I primed this bird head mofo of Tzeentch on disc. He's great but the disc looks terrible IMO and I have no idea how to paint it.

I painted one of those discs in about 1995, and had no idea what to do with it. I sold that fig not long after. Slightly more recently I have picked up two more classic disc riders, and now that you mention it. . . I still don't have any better idea what do with that disc either. :/

Looking forward to see what you do with it either way, Fez!

Well, all my lights and fancy background prints are in the storage unit, but I don't want to complain about the limitations too much, or soldado might call me out for making too many excuses, so I'll just throw this one from under my painting lamp out there as-is for now. Luckily I still benefit from Ms Blackfly's kick ass camera, which makes up for a less than ideal photography stage. :p
