Community Paint-a-Long: tiny [ Ends October 31]

Postby blackfly » Mon Jun 29, 2015 5:59 pm

I know the PAL:GIANT isn't even over yet, but it got such great participation so far, I can't help but wonder if it wasn't in part because people had plenty of time to prepare for it.

So in case thats true, I'm sending out notification of our next 3 month thematic PAL a month early. :)

Now that we've tackled GIANT, its time to tackle tiny.

While part of the raison d'etre of the PALs is always motivation in general, its also about expanding one's comfort zones. In that spirit I think its a good opportunity to go small, since the majority of us seem to spend our time on 28mm stuff. It only seems fair to our few folks that do a lot of smaller scale work that we should have to play in their world for a change :)

So, what do you paint for PAL:Tiny ?

-Something in 20mm or smaller scale
-or a larger scale fig that is really smalll in size ( like a 28mm fairy or sprite or something thats going to be only ~15mm in height. To keep with the spirit, I'd say smaller than a halfling is a good litmus test :) )
-models in whatever the equivalent is for 20mm, is that 1/72nd? or smaller.
-Matchbox cars :dodgy:

Since the next 3 month PAL wouldn't normally start till after the conclusion of PAL:GIANT, this technically will run from August through the end of October, but of course you can start early if it get you going.

get tiny!

Well I wasn't planning on posting WIP pics but I guess that's the idea and things have been a bit slow in the thread so, excuse the shaky photos...

I've never really painted vehicles before let alone do rust but I followed a tutorial on Ramshackle games site and I'm kinda happy with how it's looking so far. The idea I had is it's kinda meant to be a bit like a chariot hence the wierd armouring on the front which would have zero visibility. :loopy:

So finished the first car (Steel Chariot, Crimson Chariot? haven't decided on a name yet), the colours aren't as ridiculously bright as in the photos, the gold especially is fairly muted.

Currently working on a further two cars. The flamethrower truck which has a gunner to go on but he needs new arms and the truck will be painted first (learned that from the first one...).

And some kind of nitro boosted drag racing buggy?

Got the other two finished up (well almost...)

The flame truck still needs it's gunner but I'm going to need to sculpt arms for him so been putting it off.

ImageImage

but it will look something like...

and finally a group shot for relative sizes

Hopefully not too spammy with images... ;)
